Makin' butter

As a child, I remember my mother whipping cream for strawberry shortcake, and over-beating it: Butter! Guess who had to walk to the corner store for more cream?

Great video! But you can also do this with a Kitchenaide (or any other stand mixer). Works great!

Here's an easier way: Place 1 pint heavy whipping cream and 1 tsp salt in an empty clean plastic peanut butter jar. Leave 2 inches of space from the rim. Seal lid tightly and shake jar slightly. Insert jar into an oven mitt and place tight rubberband around top or safety pin mitt closed. Place in the clothes dryer on the No Heat setting and run for 10 minutes. Take the jar out, tighten lid and shake jar. Repeat the dryer method until the desired texture is achieved. Add garlic, herbs or cinnamon to make different butters.

I knew this of course, but the video was nice.

I have a new Sunday ritual now ... especially when I use the fresh buttermilk to make biscuits.
