A classical view (March 25, 2009)

Here are some of the latest reviews from the CVNC.org or the Classical Voice of North Carolina, a nonprofit, online performing arts journal:

Free Spirits Ensemble – Perhaps it was the surpassingly beautiful Sunday afternoon combined with the classy setting of the Holly Springs Cultural Center that made for such a pleasant diversion. Or more likely it was the dedicated musicians from the Free Spirits Ensemble of the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra, along with their two honored guests, that did the trick. Full review

North Carolina Symphony  – Stefan Sanderling (still young at 45 if one judges by usual conductorly longevity) led an interesting and diverse program of Russian masterworks with the North Carolina Symphony at Meymandi Concert Hall. Full review

Miss Saigon – The North Carolina Theatre’s big-budget presentation of the Vietnam War musical Miss Saigon is a magnificent home-grown production — perhaps, the best in the Raleigh-based regional theater’s distinguished history Full review

Vincent Mantsoe – As part of Duke University Dance Program’s three-day conference Across the Threshold: Creativity, Being, and Healing, Duke Performances presented South African choreographer and dancer Vincent Mantsoe.   Full review
