"No Country for Old Men" wins four Academy Awards and Javier Bardem (while winning a statue of his own) brings back the Dorthy Hamill wedge-cut.

Singer Amy Winehouse wins multiple Grammy awards for a song about not going to rehab, but spends much of the year in and out of facilities.

March

Miley Cyrus officially changes her name from Destiny Hope Cyrus to Miley Ray Cyrus.

April

Actor Wesley Snipes is sentenced to three years in prison for tax evasion.

May

Despite rumors of a shocking death, no character dies during the “Sex and the City” movie.

June

Actress Heather Locklear enters a facility for psychological treatment. She was released a month later.

Comedian George Carlin passes away of heart failure. He was 71.

July

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt welcome twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline.

Estelle Getty, best known for her role as Sophia on “The Golden Girls,” dies at the age of 84.

Christie Brinkley and ex-husband Peter Cook’s divorce trial got pretty nasty – with accusations of Cook’s infidelity and Internet liaisons. In the end, they reached a settlement to allow Brinkley to keep the kids.

August

Bernie Mac dies from complications due to pneumonia. He was 50 years old.

Clay Aiken becomes a dad.

Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and girlfriend Portia de Rossi get married.

September

Clay Aiken admits he’s gay to People magazine.

Actor Paul Newman dies of cancer at his Connecticut home. He was 83.

October

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and number one girlfriend Holly Madison call it quits. Fellow girlfriend Kendra Wilkinson also leaves Hef when she gets engaged to football player Hank Baskett. No word on if Bridget Marquardt is dating Hef.

The Jennifer Aniston/Angelina Jolie fight continues:

Jolie tells the NYT she and Aniston’s ex-Brad Pitt fell in love on the set of the film “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” – coincidentally when Pitt was still married to Aniston. (October)

Aniston fires back in “Vogue” saying some of the stuff Jolie said was “uncool.” (November)

November

Comedian and co-star of “The New Adventures of Old Christine” Wanda Sykes says she is “proud to be gay” during a Las Vegas rally for gay marriage. Sykes also said she married her girlfriend just before the passage of Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in California.

December

Lindsay Lohan admits to Harper’s Bazaar that she is “maybe” bisexual and “loves” her girlfriend – DJ Samantha Ronson – “very much.”
