Roadside America is a fantastic resource for the road-trippers out there.
It's a great collection of all the oddball attractions our great land has to offer. You can search by state or city. You also can suggest attractions for the list.
The North Carolina page has a lot of weird attractions in our viewing area. Of course, the legendary Gourd Museum in Angier is there. It also lists the Country Doctor Museum in Bailey, the Hattadare Indian Village down in Bunnlevel (though, it sounds like it's in ruins), Vollis Simpson's Whirligig Farm in Lucama, a bikini-clad Uniroyal girl in Rocky Mount, a creationist taxidermy museum in Southern Pines and a replica of the world's largest lighthouse in Wilson.
A big thank you to my newsroom pal Adam Carroll, who found this site!
