‘Tropic Thunder’ boycott?

Several mental disability groups are caling for a boycott of the new film “Tropic Thunder” because of its excessive use of the word “retard” and other questionable content.

Representatives for these groups screened the film – which comes out this week – and found it to be offensive.

I was planning to see the film until now.

Do boycotts by advocacy groups affect whether you see a movie or not?

Normally, I am not affected by a boycott but this one made me think. I find humor at the expense of the mentally disabled to be sick.

Has the boycott affected your opinion on the movie?

My husband was already planning to boycott the film due to his intense dislike for Jack Black! LOL

The previews look hilarious to me, and I've seen a clip on the news that the boycotters found so offensive. Its humor, and it isn't directed at anyone's child. Relax and save the worry for things that really matter.

I have no plans to boycott the movie for any "PC" reasons; not for the use of the "retard" word or because a white actor is portraying a black actor... it just doesn't appeal enough to me to see it in a theater. I'll probably view it once it comes out on DVD, though.

It is an R-rated satirical comedy!!! If that's not your cup or tea, or if you just plain don't have a sense of humor, then don't go see it! I too saw the so-called controversial clip this morning, and I didn't see anything wrong with it. It was meant to be funny, not to hurt anybody's feelings. People just like to blow things way out of proportion these days!
