This week “Golden Girls” fans from across the globe got some sad news – Estelle Getty who portrayed spunky “Sophia” died at the age of 84.
I was born in the 80s so I grew up watching Rose, Blanche, Dorothy and Sophia every Saturday night. Now I watch them in syndication just about everyday. I’ve even introduced the show to my husband – who will never admit he actually thinks the show is funny!
Estelle was a great actress with wonderful comedic timing. I learned a lot about humor and sarcasm from just watching her. I think she helped shape my sense of humor a bit!
Memorial blogs have been posted on Entertainment Weekly and GOLO, where readers created two Estelle blogs!
I can’t think of a better way to honor Estelle than to post our favorite Sophia memories:
I’ll go first:
Sophia: Dorothy, have you seen my teeth?
Dorothy: Ma, they’re in your mouth.
Sophia: I know that! Do they look good? I just ran them through the dishwasher. (smiling)
Dorothy: Ma, you got Martha Raye and Madge mixed up again.

Sophia: I hate Jell-O. If God wanted peaches suspended in midair, he would have filled them with helium.
Or her Rose-like moments of "Picture it -- Sicily 1926..."
