Ugliest dogs

Posted June 24, 2008

You may have seen the story this weekend about the world's ugliest dog, as decided at a California fair.

The voting is closed, but you might want to look at the ballot for the contest.   Those are, indeed, some ugly dogs.

Being the owner of two wonderful Chinese Cresteds I giggle at the ugliest dog contest. Unless your family includes a Crested it is hard to understand how smart they are and what wonderful personalities they have. One of my little girls has a protruding tongue from missing teeth...a characteristic of the hairless variety. Although some day when she is very old she might qualify as "the ugliest" I can't imagine anyone who spends time with these dogs can do anything but love them...even for their "homely" unusual appearance.

I must come to the rescue of this ugly slandering of dogs. The simple fact is, is that all living creatures are beautiful, on the inside and on the outside. We all are beautiful. Perhaps your ability to judge the physical attributes of other living creatures stems from a bit of unhappiness you have with yourself, or maybe you yourself have been unfairly judged in a negative manner by someone else, and they hurt you by doing so. The point is, we're all beautiful. Try to remember that.
