Ron Perlman Talks In the Name of the King

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--Actor Ron Perlman, who has just completed filming Hellboy II: The Golden Army, has been active in the convergence of Hollywood and games in recent years. The actor can be seen now in theaters in Uwe Boll’s videogame adaptation of Dungeon Siege, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale.

“I play Norick, who’s a farmer,” said Perlman from the set of the $70 million, independently-financed movie. “He’s the closest thing to a father figure that our hero, Farmer, has had. He found Farmer when he was abandoned in the woods as an infant and with the help of the community, he’s raised him.”

Perlman, who stars alongside Burt Reynolds, Jason Statham, Ray Liotta, Leelee Sobieski, Claire Forlani and Matthew Lillard in the fantasy film, described the movie as a “big, old costume drama.”

“It has a lot of very theatrical elements to it,” explained Perlman. “There are kings and magicians. Magic plays an important role in animating an entity in the film that turns into a formidable foe that places everyone in jeopardy and energizes the plot. There are huge epic battles with casts of thousands—at least it will look that way after the effects are added. There’s all kinds of hand-to-hand combat, swordplay. It’s like being a kid again doing all of that role-playing. It’s fun.”
