Amazing Space Balloon

Posted August 31, 2007

Gizmodo has the great story of some guys in Alberta, Canada, who enjoyed some high-flying success.  They launched a balloon to capture images from the edge of space.  Listen up, NASA -- these guys spent only about $400 on their space project!

The helium balloon, called SABLE-3 (Southern Alberta Balloon Launch Experiment),  launched August 11 and soared more than 117,000 feet into the sky.  It snapped one picture a minute, using a Nikon Coolpix P2 digital camera.

Pretty amazing -- and cost-effective.
