Cool Computer

Posted August 3, 2007

Here's a guy with a great desktop setup!  He's using a touchscreen and Linux.

I tried playing with Linux (Kubuntu, to be specific), but it was just too frustrating for me.  I love the idea.  I enjoyed most of the experience.  But installing applications and figuring out the drivers -- oh, man.  I would certainly put Linux on a machine that I intended to use for the basics.  I put it on a computer for my grandmother, who only wanted e-mail and Web access.

I know there are a lot of Linux true believers, and I'm still open to being a true believer.  But for now put me down as a Linux-sympathetic Windows guy.

The newer Linux's are becoming more and more like the WindowsXP type of OS, and the new windows OS are becoming more and more like the old Linux OS.

Hopefully windows notices how bad Vista is/was and gets rid of it!

That's true. Even in the two or three years I've dabbled with Linux distros, I've seen great improvements. I'm looking forward to the day that I can finally take on Linux full-time.

As it was once put to me concerning linux, don't use a wrench to hammer a nail if you have a hammer. Use the best tool available. There is a much steeper learning curve with installing linux than Windows. But that has come down over time with GUI's replacing command lines for many things, and better driver support to name a few.
