If you're trying to avoid the backups on Interstate 40 today, you might want to try Google Maps' newest feature.
Enter your address and your destination, as usual. When the map displays directions, you can move your cursor over any point in the route and drag it to find a new route. In other words, once you've got your route on 40, you can click on the closures around Airport Boulevard and drag yourself a new route.
The Highway Patrol is moving eastbound I-40 traffic onto I-540. Westbound traffic is being rerouted onto Harrison Avenue.
Our main traffic page is very busy right now, but you can watch our map of live traffic conditions updated constantly. Sensors embedded in I-40 send back live data about traffic flow, which we display on the map.
You can also keep an eye on the situation through our network of live traffic cameras. Here's a look at our series of cameras along I-40 near the accident scene.
Of course, as our crews work the scene, we'll be updating our main story about the crash with the latest details, video and images.
