Brian Shrader's Siteseeing Blog

This Video Beats Everything

Posted July 11, 2007

Here's a clip of some (fill in the blank) kids doing something really (fill in the blank).

Uhhh.  Don't do this at home -- or anywhere with gravity.

Thanks to everyone for their comments.

The purpose of the Siteseeing blog and TV segment is to have some fun with lighter stuff on the Web.

Animal Lover, I'm with you on the observation that the Web has increased production and consumption of what we'll call "low-brow" humor, and it can't be good for the culture. The fact that flatulence and vomiting fuel so many popular kiddie movies cannot bode well for society.

As I pick these videos, I wade through the muck of garbage on the Web -- the crude, offensive or just plain gross. One site has an obsession with tiresome videos of bloody skating accidents and broken limbs. Who wants to see that?

I think this video is not ostensibly funny. It's of the "Oh, Wow" order, which most of these are. Any laughs it produces are of the I'm-glad-I'm-not-that-stupid variety.

Our viewers and visitors will have to determine the value of these videos in the marketplace of ideas. I hope they will severely discount this one.

I agree with Milky, Brian you are causing me to get no work done!!! It's all your fault!!!

animal lover, you are ignorant if you think it's Brian's fault for these kids jumping off of there. How about the website that allows these kids to distribute their video??? I mean Brian is simply humoring us.

I think Brian is only pointing out the stupidity of some people, isn't this part of his job? (You tell me.) Example, I love watching "Max Ex" and the craziness on that program.

Come on Brian, fill us in. Thx

I think the response to my original post shows the division, probably, of age groups and what is funny to us.

I grew up with Abbott & Costello, Red Skelton, Tim Conway, Laurel & Hardy, Martin & Lewis. Those people were funny.

Today's humor is anything but, and it's usually downright stupid like this video, or pottymouthed, or anal-oriented.

I still say Brian is part of the problem in not having enough to do.

"Don't do this at home..." - yeh, right. Thanks for adding fuel to the stupid fire.

I agree that Brian is part of the problem, but not the 'kids jumping from towers' problem. Brian is part of the 'I can't get any work done' problem. That is a far more serious issue.

Stunts like that are very common in a foot sport known as Parkour, or FreeRunning. YouTube it. You'll be amazed.

Animal Lover, your comment that Brian is part of the problem for making these videos available is like saying a news report of a crime being available is going to give some other unstable person the idea and incentive to commit a crime and the reporter would be partly to blame. Stupid people need no help in doing stupid things and when they do stupid things no other person is to blame. When we accept the concept of censoring information, whether it be news reports or other infoormation we end up cheating ourselves. Warm fuzzy news is not news. Though, these videos are not news per se, they certainly do no harm to intelligent people and the others, well that is another story.
