Manager Meltdown

Posted June 5, 2007

This is Phillip Wellman, manager for the Double-A Mississippi Braves, losing his mind after his team lost Friday at Chattanooga, 7-6.  He really showed out and has been suspended for three games.

Here's the whole story.  I just seems -- unseemly.

Sure, punish this guy to the fullest degree, but you people need to lighten up just a tad. This is totally hilarious. I haven't laughed this hard since the President's last speech.

You know what, I applaude this guy. He made his point known all without the use of recorded profanity, obscene gestures or violence. No one was hurt, he got is point across and everyone had a laugh.

I hope some of our kids today who can't hold a conversation without every second word being a profanity, can't post a picture on myspace.com that isn't showing them raising their middle finger, and can't resolve a conflict without a punch, a knife or a gun will learn something from his actions.

You can make your point known in a grand way without offending or hurting anyone.

And we wonder why our children can be bad sports?!?!?!?
Why is this acceptable in the sports arena? It certainly isn't acceptable in the board room.

I'm sure that this manager is really a nice guy. But, isn't all this a little (a lot) over the line. I think the Braves should bring this guy in for a serious talk, if not fire him. He embarrassed the whole organization. What an example! Wonder what his wife and kids think? He's supposed to be a leader!
