Raleigh band D-Sass has been selected to compete in CMT.com’s Music City Madness Competition.

The national competition pits 64 unsigned country, bluegrass, folk, southern rock and Americana artists against each other in four different brackets.

Each bracket was selected by a country artist. D-Sass is competing against Josey Greenwell in Jewel’s bracket. Voting ends Nov. 2.

If D-Sass wins the first round, they would complete against either Jay Mast or Emily Clark in round two.

The winner will travel to Nashville to record their own CMT Studio 330 Sessions, play a private showcase with A&R executives at Valory Music and will meet country star Reba backstage. The winner will be announced Dec. 15.

To be honest, people in monster costumes scare me. They really do.

I remember being 4-years-old and going trick-or-treating with my mom on Halloween. This man – my grandmother's next-door neighbor – was scaring children who went to his front door by dressing up as a werewolf and jumping out at them.

My mother made sure I didn't walk past his house. We crossed the street and went to every other house. But on the way to my grandmother's house after a long night of getting candy, we thought we could just walk quickly past his home. He jumped out from behind his truck and scared me. I, of course, responded by projectile vomiting on him.

That event prepared me for my day as a zombie at the "Heroes, Villains and Special Effects" exhibit at the Durham Museum of Life and Science. My goal was to not cause projectile vomiting.

Celebrities and athletes turned out this past weekend for the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Tournament in Raleigh.

I talked to a few of them during the practice rounds on Saturday. It was great to see so many people taking time out of their busy schedules to support this wonderful cause.

But enough about that: you want the inside scoop on the interviews, don't you?

Here are some tidbits that didn't make my video interviews (which you can watch by clicking the links on the right):

• N.C. State head basketball coach Sidney Lowe rocked a pair of pink pants on the course. He was one of the only golfers not dressed in a green striped shirt.

• "Young and the Restless" star Kimberlin Brown was just cleared by her doctors to play golf again. She was in a car accident a year ago and is still recovering. She didn't look rusty though, when she teed off and sent the ball flying!

• Canes forward Chad LaRose was golfing...

Our Coldplay ticket winner is (drumroll please...) Debbie Hensley of Fuquay-Varina! She gets 2 tickets to check out the band on Thursday night in Raleigh.

Former UNC grad student and "American Idol" contestant Anoop Desai will perform at the N.C. State Fair on Oct. 22.

Desai, of Chapel Hill, joins the list of Dorton Arena performers, which also includes "Idol" alum Kellie Pickler.
