A friend of mine in Wilmington told me about this.  She was friends with Carol.  Carol told her a couple of days ago that she had BROKEN OFF with the 'fiance' because he wanted to not work any more while he was still able to, and other reasons, which she was going to tell her about later-of course, she never got the chance. She called the police to let them know what Carol had told her, and the detective told her that that is what they are hearing from other people, also. While not "proof" of anything, my friend told me that another couple recently met them (pre-breakup) and that neither of them could stand him - I'm sure she was picking up on this from her friends.  Alot of folks are thinking the 911 call sounds funny - one minute hysterical, the next pretty calm and matter-of-fact.   We'll see what eventually happens ....

Pine Valley homicide victim's fiance calls 911: 'She's cold as ice'
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Officers with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating a homicide that happened in the 300 block of Pine Valley Drive early Monday morning.

According to Officer Brandon Reece, Carol Ann Johnson, 59, was found dead in the home early Monday morning. Police say a 911 call was placed around 3:00 a.m.  Fire and EMS were dispatched and contacted police when they arrived to the scene.

A search warrant was executed Monday for any and all items that might be related to the homicide.

The 911 call came from the victim's fiance, who told dispatch operators that he had just got back from working at target.  He said he found Johnson on the floor in the kitchen.
"When I got here the front door was unlocked," the caller told 911.  When he walked into the kitchen to put his keys away, he said, he found Johnson, 59, lying unconscious on the floor with a towel around her ankles and blood around her head. He said she was cold as ice when he touched her with the back of his hand.
He said she was going to stay up until  midnight because she always rings her grandmother's bell at 12:01 for the 4th of July. Mgrs at Target say he has not returned to work since the incident.

Neighbors said Johnson was a kind woman with no children who lived alone on Pine Valley Drive for about 15 years.  They said she was engaged to her boyfriend of three years, who had recently moved in.

She had the Fourth of July holiday off from work, but she and her friends had celebrated a birthday with her Saturday.
