Enrollment caps proposed for 11 Wake schools
Wake school leaders Tuesday night discussed placing enrollment caps on 11 schools and continuing caps on nine others to help limit overcrowding.

Jones Dairy Elementary is projected to be at nearly 120 percent capacity for next year.
The elementary school is among 11 proposed to have student enrollments capped:
Caps currently at nine other schools would remain.
Students who have lived near the affected schools should have seat, but new families may not.
“The capping is affecting newcomers and that is difficult decisions to make,” said Christine Kushner, school board chairwoman.
Families capped out of their zoned school can choose between two overflow schools, officials said.
Tuesday’s discussion highlighted the need for new schools, board members said. A school construction bond that passed in October could mean just that, something Laura Evans would appreciate.
“One day I won’t come to you about any enrollment caps,” said Evans, senior director of student assignment for Wake County schools. “So that will be even better news.”
