After a week of sweets and treats, the annual Eno River New Year's Day Hike has become a tradition for many Triangle families looking for a healthy way to start the new year.

No reservations or registration is required for this free activity, which includes a couple of hike options followed by hot chocolate, marshmallows and popcorn around a fire.

This year, two hike options will be offered - a four to five-mile hike and a shorter two-mile stretch. Both start at 2 p.m., Jan. 1, at the Few's Ford Access area, 6101 Cole Mill Rd. It takes about 20 minutes to get from the parking lot to the starting point so be sure to include that in your travel plans.

The Eno River Association sponsors the hike.
