Enfield woman charged with abusing, burning baby

Posted October 28, 2011

— Police arrested an Enfield woman on Thursday on charges that she abused and burned her baby boy.

The Halifax County Department of Social Services referred a case of suspected child abuse to the Enfield Police Department on Oct. 3, two days after the infant was taken to Halifax Regional Medical Center for treatment of burns, police said.

The baby was airlifted to the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where physicians determined that he had previous bone fractures in addition to second-degree burns, police said.

Tasha Monique Caine was charged with felony child abuse and was being held Friday in the Halifax County jail under a $200,000 bond.

Inever understood why people abuse kids and I never will. Why would u hurt a child knowing that they can't defend theirself. Kids did not ask to come in the world. Word to the wise ther are places for kids that you dont want, if you don't love them maybe theres another family who will

It doesnt look good for her. Why she did not report the case when it was fractured bones? She had to have known something if she didn't do it. She's wrong either way.

Okay...do YOU know for sure she didn't do it?If she didn't do it why did she let this happened to her child? If it was my child and it had burns on him/her first I would have raised cane and sencondly I would have made sure that the person that DID DO IT paid full time in JAIL where they belonged.

What a sick and horrible young lady? Where was her family? Did she not get any help with her baby? I know not to ask about the wayward father. They are never in the picture like they should be. Now she faces serious consequences for abuse and burning her baby. She should have sought help from the Social Services if she realize she could not handle the baby. I pray the baby will pull through. Pray for this little one. Thanks.

"Just because a person can get pregnant, doesn’t mean they should get pregnant."

Nothing is more true. Anyone can make a baby it takes a man (or yes a woman) to raise one.

Well, at least there is a bright side to this story. In this case we can thank the social workers who have hopefully saved this child's life. So often we hear otherwise.

How old is this "infant"? Other stories have mentioned bone fractures in various stages of healing.

what a disgrace! How you could do that to any child, let alone your own is way beyond me.
