<b>ENFIELD, N.C.</b> — The town's Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to dismiss Police Chief Alan Exum, officials said Thursday.

Exum had been the focus of a State Bureau of Investigation probe since July. A former assistant chief at the police department in Halifax County alleged that Exum tampered with money from an evidence bag.

Town Administrator Bobby Davis declined further comment.
