ENFIELD, N.C. — Halifax County sheriff's deputies arrested an Enfield man they believe tried to shoot and kill a man he wanted to leave his house Christmas Eve.

Investigators said that the victim and John Richard Locke Sr. fought at Locke's home on Ringwood Road. When the victim refused to leave, Locke pulled out a rifle and pointed it at the victim, deputies said.

The victim knocked aside the rifle, but it discharged, and a bullet grazed the victim between his shoulder and neck, investigators said.

Deputy Chris High located the victim along Ringwood Road. He was treated and released from Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Deputies arrested Locke without incident and charged him with attempted murder. He was being held in the Halifax County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.
