Empty DMV office near Fayetteville to open soon

Stedman, N.C. — A contract dispute that has prevented the opening of a $3.3 million Division of Motor Vehicles office near Fayetteville has been resolved, officials said.
A 5 On Your Side story earlier this month focused on the controversy surrounding the driver’s license office on Clinton Road in Stedman, which has been in the works for seven years. The completed facility stands empty because of disagreements on several issues, including debate over a generator.
After the story aired, the Department of Transportation found out that a generator is not required. They just had to prove they could install one in case of a power outage. DMV officials said they expect to get a Certificate of Occupancy within the next couple of weeks, then begin the move-in process.
