Embers likely sparked deadly Granville County house fire
A house fire that killed a mother and daughter in Granville County on Wednesday was probably caused by embers from a fireplace that ignited a plastic container of kerosene, authorities said Thursday.

Eileen Carmack, 87, and her 49-year-old daughter with special needs, Cindy Carmack, died in the blaze that destroyed the home on U.S. Highway 15 South and Hester Road near Creedmoor.
Granville County Sheriff Brindell Wilkins said investigators suspect the fire burned so quickly and intensely because it was fueled by the kerosene oil.
Wilkins said it appeared from the position of the bodies that Eileen Carmack was attempting to help her daughter escape.
