Embarq to close Clinton call center

Posted June 6, 2008

— Embarq will close three call centers, including one in Clinton, over the course of the next few months, a spokesman said Friday.

Spokesman Charles Fleckenstein confirmed that the company was shutting down operations in Clinton, Fort Meyers, Fla., and Las Vegas.

The Clinton call center is to close Sept. 5. About 210 employees are affected by the closures.

Employees were notified of the plan Friday afternoon.

Embarq was left holding the bag when Sprint and Nextel merged, and Sprint spun off Embarq. With no wireless division, Embarq has no way to make any money. I'm sure when they are completely in the toilet, AT&T or Verizon will come along and buy them.

Sign of the times. Embarq and all other landline telephone companies are dinosaurs, and they know. That is why you must subscribe to local phone to get DSL. Otherwise you can get DSL and get a Voice Over IP service like Vonage. Cell phones and VoIP is the future of communication. Adapt of die. Unfortunately, big corporations hate adapting to this internet thing.

Does this mean we can get off embarq and go back to Earthlink. I never did like embarq forcing me to switch.
