Elderly man collapses, dies while riding bike

Posted March 11, 2013

— The Durham County Sheriff's Office says an elderly man died after collapsing while riding his bicycle Monday afternoon.

Deputies and emergency crews responded to 6711 Cheek Road at 4:14 p.m. after witnesses called 911.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he died. A sheriff's office spokesman said it appeared his death was the result of natural causes, possibly a heart attack.

Authorities were withholding the man's identity until his relatives could be notified.
