FARMVILLE, N.C. — Eight students were injured when a pipe burst on a school bus in Farmville Friday morning.

Pokie Noland, director of student services for Pitt County Schools, said some of the students suffered minor burns from the steam of the pipe burst, while others were hurt as they hurried off the bus. The students were treated and released at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Three of the students were from Farmville Middle School, and five students were from Farmville Central High School. The uninjured students were taken to Farmville Central High School, where they met with the superintendent and counselors. About 50 students were on the bus at the time.

School officials said the cause of the pipe burst is still being investigated.
