Eight charged in Wilson County bank robbery

Eight people were charged Tuesday in the robbery of a BB&T branch in Elm City last week, authorities said.

WILSON, N.C. — Eight people were charged Tuesday in the robbery of a BB&T branch in Elm City last week, authorities said.

Three masked men with guns robbed the bank last Friday and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

The following people were charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and three counts of second-degree kidnapping:

Anthony Atkinson, of 610 N. Parker St. in Elm City; Vernon Atkinson Jr., 28, of 6252 Joyner Road in Elm City; Brian Lucas, 25, of 1211 Scott St. in Rocky Mount; Jerry Barnes, 31, of 212 Morgan St. in Elm City; Matthew Farr Jr., 21, of 300 Beavue Road in Elm City; and Marcus Wiley, 19, of 605 Lynnhaven Drive in Elm City.

Kendrick Barnes, 22, of 623 Main St. in Elm City, and Rodney Barnes, 40, of 1800 Freeman St. in Wilson, were each charged with being accessories after the fact of armed robbery.

Wilson County authorities said the case remains under investigation and that more arrests are possible.
