Edgecombe wreck leaves one dead, five injured

Posted April 7, 2011

— A wreck in Edgecombe County around midnight Wednesday left a 21-year-old dead and two others in critical condition, state troopers said.

Troopers said David Corbet, 26, of Pinetops, was speeding along N.C. Highway 111 from Pinetops to Tarboro when a Chevrolet Impala pulled out from a driveway. Corbet saw the Impala and tried to swerve but still t-boned it.

Kendrick Diggins, 21, of Pinetops, who was driving the Impala, died at the hospital.

Two passengers in the Impala – Quarterius Draughn, 19, of Tarboro, and Prince Taylor, 20, of Pinetops – were in critical condition at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

Corbet, his passenger, Leon Arcila, 25, of Greenville, and a third Impala passenger, Teyon Belcher, 23, of Pinetops, were taken to Heritage Hospital in Tarboro. An update on their conditions was not available.

Corbet told troopers said that Arcila was having health problems, and he was taking him to the hospital in Tarboro. Corbet was not wearing a seat belt.

Troopers said that all the people in the Impala had been drinking, and none of them were wearing their seat belts.

Troopers said they will consult with the Edgecombe County District Attorney about possible charges.

@ Bella I agree with you! Everyone was in the wrong whether it was underage drinking or speeding, but at the end of the day someone lost their life & I know the guy. This is a tragedy that happened. Someone lost there son and others were seriously hurt where 1 could be paralyzed and 1 has both legs broken. Then @ Hater or Whatever: "tinted windows"... Really?????? Negative statement to make but that's your remark. Hmph, Wonder did the guy have on his flashers??? None of us was in the car or at the sight when it happened. Its not for us to judge. Just sad Ken ended up passing away. #THAT IS ALL!

@ bella, you're one to talk about reading comprehension.

It appears that HLDV was referring to the people in the Impala being underage, drinking, and pulling out in front of someone else. Stop being so sensitive and quick to jump on fellow golo'ers.

@Hater--Reread the article....did any of you people around here pass reading comprehension???

The people in the Impala were drinking, the other car was speeding to the hospital when the Impala pulled out in front of them. Still, stop being so judgmental, someone just lost a son and member of their family!

Drinking and pulled out in front of a car around midnight? Imagine that! I wonder if their front windows were tinted. Can't say I think this is too great of a tragedy they were underage drinking on a Wednesday night and pulled out in front of someone who was trying to get someone to the hospital.
