Edgecombe schools close amid remaining flood concerns

The Tar River through Tarboro is expected to crest Sunday at 28.1 feet, which is moderate flood stage for the town. The rising water will flood some fields and a few roads near the river.

"Beyond that, you can see that most of the town looks fine at that water level," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. "Again, moderate and not extreme flooding by any means."

Water will continue to flow downstream to Greenville, where the river will see major flood stage on Sunday when the water reaches 19.4 feet.

The Neuse River will crest late on Sunday in Goldsboro at 23.7 feet, Gardner said. When the water reaches that height, the runway lights at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base will be under water, but it won't cause any major problems.

"Again, not looking at anything that is a real disaster," Gardner said.
