CONETOE, N.C. — An Edgecombe County hunter has made the kill of a lifetime: A mammoth wild boar weighing more than 500 pounds.

North Carolina Sportsman magazine reported that Jett Webb, of Conetoe, bagged the beast last month in Bertie County after baiting him for a month.

Michael Mansell, president of the White Oak Ranch Hunting Club, told the magazine that the boar had eluded club members for years.

Webb said he plans to consume the kill; he’s making sausage out of much of the pig.

While certainly gargantuan, Webb's boar isn’t the biggest on record. Fox News reported in 2007 that an 11-year old boy shot and killed a wild boar in Alabama that weighed more than 1,000 pounds.

There have been other reports of hunters nabbing boars that weighed more than 1,000 pounds, although many of the stories have been chalked up to myth.
