GREENVILLE, N.C. — East Carolina University's Brody School of Medicine has moved up on the list of medical schools sending graduates into family medicine.

Each year, the American Academy of Family Physicians ranks the average percentages of a graduates that enter family practice as M.D's.

The Brody School of Medicine is now ranked second in the nation and first in North Carolina, compared to last year when it was ranked in fourth place.

"ECU is honored to be recognized nationally for sending graduates into primary care careers. More importantly, this ranking affirms that we're answering our state's need for more family physicians, those front-line providers we depend on to care for us from cradle to grave," said Chancellor Dr. Cecil Staton.

Just under 20 percent of Brody graduates have gone into family practice in the last three years, according to a report in Family Medicine Magazine, which is about double the national average.
