uh, representing pirate nations. So appreciate you guys making the trip. Uh, it's been a great week. Uh, just really appreciate the, uh, city of Birmingham, uh, in Birmingham Bowl and everyone, the organizers and the committee involved with the bowl. Uh, it's been a great experience for our players. Um, it's really been a first class, everything. So, uh, it's, it's really been a positive, the kids have practiced well. Um, everybody's really excited. You can, uh, you can tell the, you know, kind of the focus, uh, a little bit more today and uh, you know, the excitement starting to build today for the, for kickoff being, you know, just a little bit more than 24 hours away. So, uh, you know, it's a, it's a great time of the year and just, you know, we're honored to be representing east Carolina University, uh, and uh, and eastern north Carolina uh, in this bowl game and excited about the matchup against coastal Carolina. So questions, uh, tired of practicing against each other and I promise you that. So I think they've done a great job and I thought our preparations in Greenville were really good. Um, I think since we've been down here, we've, we've kind of gotten better each day as far as, you know, getting closer to being ready to play. I think they've done a good job of balancing, you know, when it's football time and when it's time to enjoy the experiences of the bowl game. But like I said, you know, I can tell you no more of a focus this morning, uh, during meetings Walkthrough is very sharp. Um, I would anticipate everything being sharp tonight and tomorrow and this is a group that's uh, you know, their experience and they're excited to be here. Well, I think, I think this is a team that's won a lot of ball games the last couple of years. I mean you've got a quarterback that's a three time uh raining sun Belt player of the year, obviously a dynamic player right there. Um, you know, he's surrounded by playmakers, uh, in the running back room and at the receiver position. Uh, it's a group that's won a lot of high level. So obviously they've got a lot of confidence, They believe in themselves uh, defensively, uh, you know, they've been, you know, the last several years, just a very stout aggressive defense. So I just think it's a, it's a complete ball club that's, you know, for the most part dominated the sun belt the last three years. So uh, you know, we've got a tall task. Well, I mean, I think just, you know, coastal, um, you know, as a, as a newer program I faced them before when I was at the citadel, we faced them in the FCS playoffs. Um, but you know, they've, they're newer to FBS. So I think that's the reason you haven't seen a matchup between two schools before. Um, I think regionally it makes sense. Uh, moving forward, uh, is too great conferences. The american in the sun Belt. So, uh, you know, I would be shocked if you don't see a series somewhere down the road you on the interview with and watch. Uh yeah, I'm just kind of locked into the game plan, you know, something I think about after, but it is hard not to think about, you know, it's your last go round, you know, leaving to walk through today is our last walk through really as a team even though we got one tomorrow and stuff. But um, yeah, you know, life's gonna be different, you know, whatever whatever comes my way, you know, I'm just gonna attack it at full speed, but just focus on this game and you know, the senior class wants to go out with a win and that's what we're focused on right now. Yeah, I agree with holding uh, for me, you know, this bowl experience, I've just been trying to make the most out of it, enjoy my teammates, enjoying the coaches. I've had a lot of fun on this trip. So these experiences are experience. I'm gonna cherish for a lifetime. But now, you know, it's the day before the game, so I'm ready to lock in for the game and get ready. It's my last game. So definitely got to go out with the bank. It feels great. You know, last year it was taken away from us, we got to go to a ball game but didn't get to play. So now being able to play and showcase what we've been practicing and what we've been ready to do, ready for it, right? Yeah. I mean, we haven't had a game for, like you said about a month, but we've had a lot of great practices. We've been going at it very physical practices. So just kinda you get used to doing that, turning on that switch and once you see uh, once you go up against an enemy or another team is different because you're going against practice, you don't really want to attack each other too much, you know, because you're on the same team. But now that we get a chance to go up against another opponent, just gotta flip on that switch and get ready to play, how we play. You're kind of the last group that carried started with this football team was really kind of down and out where it is now and kind of take us through that, not getting to play ball game last year, just kind of the final, you know, sense of urgency and what it means for this team and you guys leaders to finish it on the yeah, for sure. Um, you know, I think, you know, this team knows it's a blessing to be pointing at this time of the year. Um, you know, a lot of people ask, you know, what was it like being a hotel for christmas? I thought it was a blessing um, being with those guys and you know, miles touched on it just being around the guys enjoying the guys. Um Because when we first got here I mean postseason play wasn't even an option. I mean we we had to totally flip the program and when Coach Houston came in you know this class bought into it and then you know got the classes after us to buy into and you know to be right here to have a chance to play for a ring um and win a ball game would be huge for this program, huge for this class and obviously you know huge for this um team. So I'm just proud to be here. You know but the job's not done. You know we we got a game tomorrow to go out there and play and uh if we really want to have a special season we got to win it. Yeah they play hard play really hard and you can tell they got a chip on their shoulder. Um You know I think our teams are very comparable to each other um With the way that they play just just a hard nosed team um That you know wants to win once win games has won a lot of games. Um So we got a ton of respect for those guys. I mean they're they're really good football team. It's going to take you know every every single one of us um tomorrow to win that game and you know hopefully pull through a sense of pride um definitely prideful at how you know we started from the bottom E. C. U. Was at the bottom bottom of the pro and its history of where it's been. So now to see the change to coach Houston like you said when he came in we had to buy into the program. Buy into that system and to see where it's come from and to be playing a ball game. Uh It's it's a blessing. So I'm definitely probable and I take a lot of pride in seeing where we've come from. And I just want to end on a good note. Uh Really just focusing on our technique and be fundamentally sound. I think that's the main thing. Uh Sometimes you can get loose sight of that as the season goes on. But locking in this last month we've just been working on our fundamentals, getting our chemistry back together. Great communication and with that it will translate to the ball game definitely. I'll put him in the top five qbs that we faced. Uh He's great thrower. He's very consistent in what he does, he manage his games, he knows how to win games. So we're just gonna have to force him to make tough decisions. Get him behind the sticks and then play and get off the field on third down. What were you when you I was gonna play the game. I was excited. I want close to Carolina. I want them to be at their uh full running, full strength. I want all their best players on the field. So we can really showcase a great game and we can play at our best. And uh, yeah, I was excited. I didn't, I didn't want them to uh with their backups, you know, I want him to play uh and I'm ready for the match up. Well, I mean, I think uh, you know, my my experiences, I don't know how much that carries over to the kids. You know, I can talk to them just about the preparation, but uh, this is very similar to the, you know, the championship runs that we had at other schools. But uh, you know, the biggest thing I've talked to them about is just, you know, this is the first time that uh east Carolina has played a bowl since 2014. Like, like the guy said before we were qualified last year, we were sitting literally we were at this point last year when the military bowl got canceled, we're on this day. And so that's the big thing is, you know, having a chance to play a bowl game, uh, you know, they have not won a bowl game since 2013. So having a chance to, you know, we win a bowl game for east Carolina. And uh, you know, one thing I shared with these two and a couple of others, you know, before we came over here is, you know, east Carolina University has nine bowl wins in the history of the program. So, you know, that's, that's great. But that's not a ton. It's not like we've won 30 bowls. Uh, so to get 1/10 bowl win, that's significant. And so that's been, you know, really the thing we focused on with the players is just the significance of being in this situation and having the opportunity to do something special. And I think especially for this class and, you know, these two are great representatives of this, of this group, uh, this class to go out with an eighth win, which continues to show the upward trajectory of the program. I mean, I think this class deserves that. And so, you know, that's, that's, that's all the motive motivating things behind. You know what we're talking about internally in chroma, the wind of old and tomorrow, the wind and rain have that forever. How good would that feel? I feel pretty good. Um, you know, it's something that, you know, we came in with a goal in mind to get us back to a bowl game, but also to win the ball game. Um, so we're here, we might as well win it now. So, you know, it's proud of proud of where we've come from, kind of like miles said. And um, you know, this whole team, um, you know, this whole program and when we came in at 18 years old, I think miles came in at 17. Um, it was nothing close to this. So, um, just to, just to be here now, it's a blessing. But like I said, I mean the job's not finished and we got one more to go mason grow under you for the last couple of years. Obviously coach mentioned the other day, we will start the next year. What have you seen him over the growth at this time? That, um, yeah, he's going a ton, You know, he's one of my best friends on the team. Um, I'm super, I wouldn't want anyone else, you know, take that role in him. You know, he'll, he'll be ready for it and he's gonna be ready. You know, I mean, this team and this program is ready to take the next step and he's gonna be the guy that put him there, I would say. So. He's had a good, he's a good uh, prep, you know, for the last month, you know, he's prepared to play. Uh, you know, we're, we're fortunate to have an extremely experienced starter that has won a lot of games and done a lot of great things. And so that's a blessing. But we have a guy that's sitting right there, you know, behind him that's prepared to play. Uh, and uh, has really shown, you know, over the last month that, you know, he's ready for his time. So, you know, it would not shock me to see both of them tomorrow. Yeah you know him is gonna be just fine. Um He's definitely the biggest center I've ever had. I mean he was a tackle at the beginning of the year now, he started the center in the ball game but uh he's gonna be ready you know we we've grown really close just last month and time off. I spent with him you know I made sure to um wherever wherever he was going I was going. So uh make sure you spend time with him just get that relationship down. Um You know center quarterback, you got to think the same especially with the idea and stuff and I like the I. D. A lot of the stuff anyways um but you know it was a great center for us, you know he had a really good time here but you know he wanted to to move on and you know he was waiting for his time and he's got his time, he'll do well yeah feeling good, you know I'm ready to roll and um and anytime you get a month off um of P. T. And stuff like that you're gonna feel a lot better. So um yeah I'm feeling as good as I'm gonna feel. Um So I'm ready to roll. Mhm. Well I think you do in just about any bowl game. I mean it's and we've talked we've thrown every trick play, you could possibly conceive that our defense and you know, we've done all kinds of crazy stuff on special teams, just, you know, impress upon our players that, you know, to be prepared for anything because I think that's uh, you got a month off, you know, coaches, they sit around and draw a lot of stuff up. So especially I think with, you know, guys that, you know, now they have a chance to maybe, you know, put their own stamp on things on the other sideline. You know, I think you could see some, you know, some things you haven't seen before. So that's what we've been trying to prepare for and our kids be ready to play. Thanks a lot. Go Pirates.

I'm meteorologist, Kat Campbell and the wr severe weather center, the wr weather alert day will go into tomorrow. We have seen our first round of storms clear the area, but overnight we expect more storms to move in between about three and 9 a.m. Those should be more widespread but with a little bit less energy in the atmosphere, the primary concern there would be damaging winds and then we'll have a low storm threat as we head into tomorrow afternoon. So let's take a look at future casts. Storms continue to clear out from the early evening round. We should be dry 1011 midnight. It's not until about three or 4 a.m. that we begin to see storms move into our western counties and those are going to be with us during the early morning hours. 6 a.m. Rain could be around on a pretty widespread basis, impacting the morning commute. We'll see a good chance for rain seven perhaps lingering into 89 o'clock. After that, we should start to see the rain pushing out and storm chances would be pretty low for the remainder of the day. But in the morning, beware of rain and storms at the bus stop. You may want to wait in the car with your kids if you're able to, especially if there's any thunder or lightning around. Meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner will keep you up to date on that starting at 430 tomorrow on wr news. So be sure to check in with her before you leave the house and head to the bus stop. The good news is storms clear out just in time for Saturday and Sunday. We'll still have some scattered storms around Friday afternoon. Saturday though, it is cooler. It's drier, not so humid. 74 partly cloudy, a 20% chance for rain. Very, very late Saturday night and most of us aren't going to see that 79 for Mother's Day on Sunday. It ends up being a beautiful and dry day for Mother's Day 59 at 8 a.m. 70 by lunchtime upper seventies for the afternoon. And we get a break from the big heat. No more nineties on our seven day forecast, high temperatures are going to be still above normal most days, but a bit closer to normal for this time of year in the seventies and eighties, at least Thursday remains a WRL weather alert day, at least during the morning hours. Friday, we've got some scattered storms a 50% chance. Those are more typical afternoon, summertime storms and then over the weekend things look pretty nice. Overall, the humidity drops in a significant way this weekend we stay pretty comfortable on Monday of next week, but late Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, we could see a soaking round of rain arrive. Certainly good news that we are seeing the rain around here. We just don't need these, the storm threat to go with it.
