TARBORO, N.C. — Mounds of snow and ice rose this week from the flat topography of Edgecombe County, which saw the heaviest snowfall in Tuesday night's storm.

Five to 6 inches of snow fell on Tarboro, while less than 3 inches fell on Roxboro, which normally receives the brunt of winter weather in the Triangle.

"It's pretty neat," Tarboro resident Mike Braxton said Thursday.

Nikki and Makayla Mears headed for Hilma Country Club, taking advantage of the biggest snow in their hometown in years to get in some sledding.

Nikki said it was the most snow she'd seen in "probably my whole life."

Makayla said she also enjoyed getting out of school for three days this week.

Joe and June Edmondson, who were making a bread run to a local Piggly Wiggly, said, however, that they have had enough snow for a while.

"I'm a warm weather person myself. I'd just as soon," Joe Edmondson said before his wife interrupted him.

"We like the beach. We're warm weather folks, but, I mean, it's nice," June Edmondson said of Tarboro's snow.
