A senior at East Wake High School was among three teenagers killed Sunday in a serious crash, according to the school.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A senior at East Wake High School was among three teenagers killed Sunday in a serious crash, according to the school.

Erick Avila, 18, who was in the back seat of a silver sedan, died in a crash near the intersection of Forestville and Buffalo Road. Carlos Gomez, 19, who was driving the car, and his brother, 17-year-old Juan Gomez, also died in the crash.

According to officials with the State Highway Patrol, their speeding car lost control at the intersection around 2 a.m., over-corrected and slide sideways into an oncoming SUV.

A mother and child in the SUV were transported to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries.

The road was shut for approximately three hours while crews cleared and investigated the crash.

A letter that went out to students and staff at East Wake High School said Avila will be greatly missed by his peers. The principal said counselors will be available during the school day on Monday for students, faculty and staff.
