Durham, N.C. — The East Durham Pie Company has a permanent location and is hoping to be moved in by the summer.
On Monday, owner Ali Rudel announced on the company's Kickstarter page that the upcoming cafe and bakery will be located at 406 S. Driver St. in Durham.
"The building is already under construction and moving along quickly at that! There’s a lot that still needs to go into it, but we hope that with hard work and some luck we’ll be able to open our doors this summer," Rudel wrote.
Rudel started the business out of the kitchen in her home on East Main Street in Durham. It has since grown into a popular local bakery, with handpies being sold at businesses throughout Durham and at Pop-Up Slice Shops. She still prepares everything from her certified kitchen.
Rudel had sought $20,000 to open a cafe and bakery. To date, the campaign has raised more than $24,000.
"The location has room for both indoor and outdoor seating and for an open kitchen that will allow everyone who walks in the doors to see what we’re working on. It has big windows that let in plenty of light, and even in its current state it’s easy to see how it will be a warm and cozy place," Rudel wrote.
