PALISADES, IDAHO — A senior at East Chapel Hill High School died Monday when the plane she was in crashed near the Idaho-Wyoming border, officials said.

MacKenzie Ruston, 17, was one of two people on the plane when it went down near a reservoir in eastern Idaho.

Investigators identified the pilot as Ruston's family friend, Reade Genzlinger, 61, of Bryn Athens, Pa. Both Genlinger and Ruston were part-time residents of nearby Alpine, Wyo.

The two were flying in a vintage Yak 52 Russian trainer aircraft and were flying with two other planes at the time, authorities said. Genzlinger was the owner of the Yak 52 aircraft.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating to determine the cause of the crash.

Grief counselors were at East Chapel Hill High on Tuesday to help students and faculty.
