Early muzzleloader season for Northern Zone set to begin

ALBANY, N.Y. — The week-long early muzzleloader season for hunters in upstate New York's Northern Zone is set to begin.
New York Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos says more deer are taken by hunters during opening weekend than any other two-day period in that region. The season begins on Saturday.
Seggos says that despite last year's mild winter, hunters should expect to see more deer this fall.
DEC has changed the rules for early muzzleloader season to reduce antlerless harvest in two wildlife management units. Hunters in wildlife units 6F and 6J, located in Franklin, St. Lawrence, Hamilton, Herkimer, Lewis, and Oneida counties, are prohibited from taking antlerless deer.
