HENDERSON, N.C. — Vance County deputies were called Tuesday to a Henderson home after someone found a stash of dynamite.

The home on Ellington Road, near Warrenton Road, is for sale, and a prospective buyer called the sheriff’s office after finding what looked like a box of dynamite. The box was discovered between the garage and a storage shed.

Vance County Sheriff Peter White said the box contained about 30 sticks of dynamite, and a bomb squad from Durham was brought in to detonate the box. They burned the box, because they could not move it, according to authorities.

No one was injured.

White said the dynamite was likely inside the shed for a long time and was moved outside by someone cleaning out the shed. The property is owned by a former building contractor and has been vacant for two years, he said.

No charges will be filed in the case, he said.
