DWI suspect shot after chase

Posted August 18, 2008

— The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting death of a suspect early Monday in Craven County.

According to the Highway Patrol, state troopers and Craven County deputies stopped a suspected drunk driver after a chase just after 3 a.m. on U.S. Highway 70 near James City.

The suspect, Billy Golden Jr., 45, of 3502 Harvard Way in New Bern, allegedly ran over stop-sticks near the Clark's Road exit, then proceeded to sideswipe a trooper'c car before coming to a stop.

As officers approached, Golden attempted to run them over with his vehicle, a highway patrol spokesman said. The officers then opened fire, killing Golden.

Glad the Troopers were not hurt.
Let this be a lesson to anyone who wants to run and harm the police - this may be the last thing you do.
Sorry for the Trooper for having to use deadly force - this must be a difficult thing to go through, but the bad guy brought it on himself, and it sounds like did not leave the Trooper a choice...

Sounds like it was handled appropriately. Skills save lives. And this guy just tested those skills and lost.
