DWI checkpoints to run through holidays

Posted December 1, 2008

State and local law enforcement will be conducting checkpoints this holiday season to try to get impaired drivers off the roads.

The state's "Booze It and Lose It!" campaign runs through Jan. 4.

During the same period last year, 165 North Carolina drivers were involved in deadly traffic crashes. Nearly one-third of those were alcohol-related.

It would be more effective and more American to write more aggressive driving citations year round instead of violating our rights through the holidays.

I wish they wouldn't warn us about this. Just give us the stats after the holiday season is over.

WRAL should post the locations of these check-points so we citizens could avoid having our 4th Amendment rights trampled.
