Durham widow gets husband's 11 Army honors
Decades after his service to his country ended, Army Corporal Donald "Buddy" Moore got the honors he earned Wednesday. Moore's widow, Wanda, accepted 11 medals and awards on his behalf for service in World War II and the Korean War.

Moore's service record was damaged, along with those of numerous others, in a fire at the National Personnel Records Center in the 1970s. It was only recently that remnants were pieced together to confirm the honors he earned.
Sen. Kay Hagan presented the awards, including the Bronze Star, in a ceremony at Durham's Croasdaile Village.
"It is brave individuals like Corporal Buddy Moore who make this country strong, and we will never forget his service and his sacrifice,” Hagan said.
Moore served with the U.S. Army 91st Infantry Division, 362nd Infantry regiment as a heavy machine gun operator in Northern Africa and Southern Italy during World War II. He also served in the 11th Airborne Military Policy Company during the Korean War.
