Durham warns apartment dwellers of robbery threat

Durham police have responded recently to a spate of robberies in the common areas of apartments near Lambeth Circle and South LaSalle Street, and they warned residents Friday to be aware of their surroundings.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police have responded recently to a spate of robberies in the common areas of apartments near Lambeth Circle and South LaSalle Street, and they warned residents Friday to be aware of their surroundings.

Residents have been held up at gunpoint and robbed of phones and other personal items in parking lots, breezeways and other outdoor common areas. Police offered the following suggestions:

  • Do not walk alone after dark.
  • Always have keys out.
  • Walk with a purpose.
  • Avoid dark areas of parking lots.
  • Do not carry extra cash or valuable items.

Police have also asked that anyone who sees suspicious activity or who has information about the recent robberies call police at 919-560-4583 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
