— A 15-year-old will stand trial as an adult for the murder and robbery of a Durham man Sept. 4.

Steven Mack is one of four people charged in the death of Bernardo Ponce, 33, of Chapel Hill Road. Ponce was found shot near his home. A second victim, Antoney Garcia Dominguez, 40, of Durham, survived the shooting and was taken to Duke University Hospital.

"You people are nuts. A 15yr old has no business being tried as an adult. He is a child with a lot of problems. None of which can be resolved in an adult prison. Reformation & not punishment should be the goal for this kid." Phrostbite

How about we slap him on the wrist and then move him into your neighborhood beside your family and you can work on rehabilitating him.

I agree with the decision, but does anybody really think the punishment will fit the crime? Just like everyone else, he'll be out to kill again in no time.

There should not be an age limit. You murder someone, on purpose, because you are committing a willful act (crime) you should be tried as an adult.

I am sorry for this boy and that HE CHOSE to make poor decisions that lead him to this. BUT I don't disagree with the others that although he is still a boy he is not a child- at 15 he is fully capable of understanding that both robbery and murder are wrong. A person who commits robbery and murder at twenty-something is responsible for their action. A boy at 15 and his parents (or lack thereof) are responsible for this act.

Nuts? How about the victims and their families?

The bleeding hearts that keep turning these animals loose on us are the ones who are "nuts"

These young men are part of a cycle that will never end. I will bet that at least one or two, of the four, have already made some young girl pregnant.

I'd like to see his criminal record, assuming he has one. That may be a factor in this determination. Still not sure it is the right thing to do but, without knowing the details of his actions in this crime and family background, hard to say.

Yes, he should be tried as an adult. you have NO idea how many 17, 18, 19 year old guys are in the durham county jail. they start their criminal careers VERY young and this guy does NOT deserve another chance to hurt someone else's loved one.

Prison is NOT REHAB - it is for punishment.

These punks want to be "gang bangers" at 15 so let them reap what they sow

  • The2ruthHurts Oct 27, 2010

Sound good to me. And maybe next these gangsters will not be so quick to pull the trigger. There is zero rehabilitation for these kind of people. We are talking about individuals who grew up in a life of crime and have opted to continue to cycle. Life sucks and that is reality. How easy we forget that one person was murdered for no reason while another was shot for the same thing. Once we start making examples of some of our criminals, i guarantee you things will change.

You want to act like a real tough guy then you get treated like a real tough guy when you are caught!!! The parents (if any) should be held accountable also!!!! At 15 years old he should be looking to start serious dating not at life in prison!!!
