— Durham police are asking for information about a shooting that happened Sunday night on Delbert Avenue.

Several people, including two 3-year-olds, were inside an apartment in the 4200 block of Delbert Avenue when several shots were fired shortly after 11 p.m.

An 18-year-old woman who was inside the apartment was shot twice in the back. She was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Several bullets struck the apartment building, police said. The victims told officers they thought it was a drive-by shooting, but did not provide any descriptions of suspects or vehicles.

Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator A.M. Sterling at 560-4415, ext. 233 or Crime Stoppers at 683-1200.

Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.

This can't be! Mayor Bell has already told us Durham doesn't have a significant crime problem, didn't he?!

When are the police going to start arresting drive-by shooters who are probably on parole since they cannot seem to keep up with them, and when are judges going to start convicting. It seems to me that the police must have some kind of idea where these people get guns and if not find out and do something about it.

Its sad that these kids that are underage think that gangs, drugs, and crime are the way to go. I see my rights as a law abiding citizen being quickly taken away because of the illicet actions of these thugs. The street society and the music listened to glorifies much of this behavior. These little children in this apartment could have just as easily been hit, and unless some type of intervention happens, these little babies may one day be the shooters.

dataclerk - "Where are these under-age kids obtaining these guns?"

The article didn't say they were underage...do you know something we don't?

  • Dr. Dataclerk Apr 7, 2008

Where are these under-age kids obtaining these guns? Once the police finds out these people should be charge and sent to prison.

This is so sad because it keeps happening over and over again. To innocent babies in the apartment of gun fire. People, when are we going to realize that gun, grugs and volience is not the way!!
