DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham 15-year-old has pleaded guilty to fatally shooting his 13-year-old sister last fall, authorities said Tuesday.

Jairo Lopez pleaded guilty Monday to voluntary manslaughter in the Nov. 1 shooting of Emily Lopez in their Faucette Avenue home. She died a few days later at Duke University Hospital.

He was sentenced to five to seven years in prison.

Rene Moreno-Lopez, 17, was charged with violating the state's storage of firearms to protect minors statute. Durham police said Jairo Lopez took his brother's gun to school in May 2012, as well as using it to shoot their sister.
