Durham Teen Injured in Hit-and-run

Posted July 24, 2007

— A hit-and-run accident left a Durham teenager with serious injuries Saturday afternoon, said police.

Rose Ivy, 17, of Glendale Avenue, was hit while crossing North Duke Street near Glendale Avenue around 1:30 p.m., police said. Witnesses said that a northbound gray Chevrolet Cavalier hit Ivy.

The driver, Ashley Ravella, 25, of Dover Road, fled the scene but came back 20 minutes later, police said.

Ivy was taken to Duke University Hospital with serious injuries to her head and arms. She remained in critical condition Monday, said officials.

Police arrested Ravella and charged her with felony hit-and-run.

I remember that story. The person who hit the pedestrian recieved a lighter sentence b/c they claimed the person hit contributed to his own death by crossing captial blvd at night and I think it mentioned something about him drinking perhaps. I dont know all the details but that is what I remember. Well at least this driver came back. Guilty conscious or not.

Hmm please help me here...but wasn't there a story posted some weeks ago..about a hit and run, where the person actually acknowledged they hit something but still continued on, and got home and cleaned the car? and all they received was a slap on the wrist? this person...obviously knew something wasn't quite right and returned and gets arrested for felony hit and run? I know I must be missing something here...I just have to be!

Glad the teen is ok. This could have been a fatal accident. Praying for a speedy recovery.
