Posted April 3, 2008

— An Orange County campus for Durham Technical Community College will open next month, officials said Thursday.

The 19.6-acre campus, located on the east side of Old N.C. Highway 86, is designed to serve Orange County residents trying to continue their education, obtain work force training or pursue lifelong learning. A 40,000-square-foot building includes 22 classrooms and computer and science labs, as well as a library and faculty and student lounge.

A May 2 grand opening will include tours from 3:30 to 6 p.m., refreshments and live music. A brief program is scheduled for 4 p.m.

This is fantastic news. I had not heard about this before. I, too, have often wondered why Orange County didn't have a community college, and I am guessing it is because of UNC. However, there are people in Orange County, too, who need higher education that is not university-related.
