Posted December 4, 2013

Steven Michael Carrera

— A 16-year-old student at Riverside High School in Durham was arrested Wednesday after he brought a loaded gun onto campus, authorities said.

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office said a school resource officer received an anonymous tip that a student had a handgun. Deputies said they found the student in class and took the weapon – a .45-caliber pistol – without incident.

Steven Michael Carrera, of the 1300 block of Morreene Road, was charged with possession of a concealed weapon, possession of a handgun by a minor and felony possession of a weapon on educational property.

Deputies said Carrera refused to answer questions and would not say why he had the weapon or where it came from.

He was held in jail under a $100,000 bond.

"16-year old freshman... so he's 2 years behind his peers, and now he's suspended for 365 days. He can be a 17-year old freshman next year."

And the schools can be forced to let him back in, then blamed if he doesn't progress.

    "Key word........durham"

You don't know anything about the different high schools in Durham, do you? Where they're located? Demographics? Reps? They're all the same, right?

The tone of most of the comments not only on this stry but others show a-lot of people who are basically the same or in some cases even worse then the accused.
Look in the mirror people and read your thoughts.

He should be expelled and he should be glad that I'm not his parent. He would have a hard time sitting down for awhile and on restriction for quite awhile.

He better be glad I'm NOT his momma!! I'd be done had that boy's tail feathers tied up tighter than a tick on a hound's tail!!

Why does the movie The Principal with Jim Belushi cross my mind when I see the conditions of some of the schools around here?
