Durham shooting victim identified

— The 18-year-old who was found shot to death Monday afternoon on a Durham street corner has been identified, police said Tuesday.

Officers responded to a call about a disturbance with a weapon near the intersection of Allgood Street and Belvin Avenue shortly before 2 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, they found Jonathan Royster, of Piper Street, lying in the street, police said.

Royster was pronounced dead at the scene.

A person was seen fleeing the scene on foot, but police didn't release any description of the suspected gunman.

    (from a previous posting)Not too many years ago a murder was big news. It still is, however, it seems as though one occurs in Durham so often we almost expect to see it in the news. I don't know what the answer is to stop so many killings. I wish I did. But, I do think it is time to hold those we elect and hire who say they have the answers to be accountable and lead the community to make a difference. I believe the community is ready to follow a real leader.

    let's see.... hmmm... an 18 year old, dead, in the street, in the daylight... Yep, I say drugs or gang activity. I wish these kids would get smart.. drugs and gang activity will only lead them to a darker spot. Death.

    I got money that says either the shooter, victim, or both have something to do with drugs. And don't come back with, "DUH!". I know you're all thinking the same thing.
