DURHAM, N.C. — Joshua McClain, 17, who was charged with shooting a 16-year-old girl in the head last month at 8 Atka Court, has turned himself in to Durham police, spokeswoman Kammie Michael said Tuesday.

He was placed in the Durham County Jail under a $520,000 bond.

McClain, of 2819 Rochelle St., is charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and one count of discharging a firearm within the city limits.

The shooting happened shortly before midnight on June 20 on Atka Court off Holloway Street. The girl was standing in the parking lot with several people when a male approached the crowd and fired shots, police said.

The 16-year-old was shot in the back of the head and was taken to Duke University Hospital, where she was treated and released. The girl appears to have been an innocent victim, according to investigators.
