— Joshua McClain, 17, who was charged with shooting a 16-year-old girl in the head last month at 8 Atka Court, has turned himself in to Durham police, spokeswoman Kammie Michael said Tuesday.

He was placed in the Durham County Jail under a $520,000 bond.

McClain, of 2819 Rochelle St., is charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and one count of discharging a firearm within the city limits.

The shooting happened shortly before midnight on June 20 on Atka Court off Holloway Street. The girl was standing in the parking lot with several people when a male approached the crowd and fired shots, police said.

The 16-year-old was shot in the back of the head and was taken to Duke University Hospital, where she was treated and released. The girl appears to have been an innocent victim, according to investigators.

What is the world is having a father at home got to do with going out and shooting someone in the head? Geesh! Maybe his father WAS at home and let his son out that late at night with no supervision. Kids nowadays need to be supervised 24/7 until they are about 25!!!

"Why was a 16 year old female in the street at 12 midnight? When I was 16, my curfue was 11:00pm"

Again, the lack of traditional families where giving birth and raising a family was indeed a blessing is gone.

What outstanding parent(s)???? this girl must have...
I'm glad she'll be ok, maybe this incident will help her understand that being in that neighborhood at that time of night isn't the wisest of decisions. Maybe not...

IMO, crime is on the rise and so is single-parent births. Have you noticed in your local paper the number of out-of-wedlock births? Have you taken notice of the age at which girls are giving birth? It seems to me that a life is no longer held in high esteem because they're occurring like litters of pups or kittens. A life does not seem to be that important to those coming of age today.

Gun control is necessary. Don't shoot innocent bystanders.

Im sure there is no father in the home or probably even in this boys life. Moms are awesome dont get me wrong, but some things a father must do.

Again another Black male being paraded across the news for serious crimes. When will the community say "enough is enough" and take parenting classes or an interest in their kids?? You have to make this STOP!! The ball is in your court; What are you going to do about it...

Interesting that his bond was set higher than the guy who shot the police officer a week and a half ago.
